i was hosting the wedding of my bestfriend yesterday.
all was well, until one of the priests reacted to the way me and my partner lizzie, were doing the stint.

***

while we were calling the table numbers for the photo opportunity with the newly weds, the mother of the bride went down the presidential pedestal-cum-table, and whispered to me that we called the priests first.

obedient as i was, i obliged to the request. then came the horrific part.

this priest, a certain father came with the vase that had the table number and arrogantly said while walking towards us, "we will not come for the photo because you were calling the guests by table. that's your rule, right?" he then went back to his seat.

starled as i was with the priest's reactions, i brushed it away. i was under the assumption that he might have been joking, and cracking one to make the occasion lighter. when their time came, the same priest grabbed my partner by the wrist and whispered something. having good ears, i caught a couple of words or two. it was something about our jokes.

after their photo was taken, then queued for the food. i asked lizzie what the priest told her, and was even more startled with what she told me. apparently, the priest told her that were cracking the wrong jokes. and that they were unintelligent.

***

believe me, my hatred against priests fired up again. unintelligent? lizzie and i were instructed by the newly weds to make the reception quirky. and then this priest comes over and says our jokes were not intelligent?

f***, i had a 1.58 GPA for my undergraduate program, and a 1.18 GPA for my Master's Degree. i am a certified reviewer for TOEFL and IELTS, and this "priest" comes over and says i'm not intelligent?! does he know what he's saying?

ano bang alam nya? philosophy? theology? kaya ko ding pag-aralan yun. siya ba, kaya niyang intindihin ang rikotikos ng economic paradigms? can he create a medium-term development plan from scratch? can he pass judgement on the sustainability and appropriacy of development projects for the poor? i doubt.

all he can do is sermon of things that he doesn't experience, like living a life of frugality, or having the most basic of things.

he lectures about intelligence, but can he comprehend that 70% of poor Filipinos are living in rural areas, and all of them are Catholics waiting for God to save them through priests who are supposed to do more than just sermon.

he says live a life of frugality, but their churches are filled with gold, silver, and murals that cost thousands of pesos which could have been used to exhault God's Name by uplifting the life of the poor. what sense is there to ask everyone to give, when all the church - all he does - is sermon, and jump into politics?

has he checked his morality as well? is lambasting people, abusing his stature in society as priest, and using that to make people feel bad about themselves, a part of the priesthood training? i don't think so.

***

not satisfied, you know what he did after the reception?
he went up to lizzie and told the poor lass that the symbolisms we presented during the reception (the cake, wine, doves etc) were poorly researched. that we should have double-checked them.

hello?!

does he honestly believe that these traditions are Christian in origin?! almost all traditions in our faith were based in some paganistic ritual, and were later adopted by the Romans, when they embraced Christianity through the first pope Charlemagne. the very same Romans who persecuted Christ and the early apostles.

i hate him. i hope he rots in hell with the rest of us sinners.
he may be draped in white linen that symbolizes the purity of our faith, but his sins cannot be hidden.

***

i am not a holy person.

one famous author once said, "everything i do is either immoral, illegal or fattening." i like the ring to that quote.

i may not be the most erfect of people, nor am i blessed. but i go to church to talk to my God, and ask forgiveness for sins i do every minute of my insignificant existence; i try, in all my capacity, to not step on anyone's shadow or ego; i am sincere to my friends and my enemies.

i do not spite people merely because my table was called last, because i am under the shroud of superiority, thinking that i am better than any one else.

NO ONE is better than anyone else.
ONLY God is better than all of us.

still here. hey.

Jul 21, 2008

been a while.
a couple of things:

1. it's my 51st day in the blue school. i'm gaining confidence. it was daunting during the first few weeks of my stay here. people looking at me, mistaking me for someone i actually was. i remember this teacher i met in a peculiar place long ago (i'd rather not say), "why do you keep using the AB COM pc? para ka tuloy program coordinator ng BA Com eh." and he laughed unknowingly. i smiled, and said i was in fact whom he thought i was. he stopped laughing.

2. my daughter's turning seven months old, and she's going places - the four corners of the mattress, i mean. she's growing so fast, mouthing words very well, gums starting to itch (she's teething). one time i thought i heard her phrase the word "mommy". i was right; now, she says "mah" and "mie" in fragments. i wonder when she'll say "daddy"? LOL maybe not anytime soon.

3. i'm starting to join the marketing schedules of the school. i'm starting to realize the school may have a long way to go in terms of documentation, policy formation, etcetera, but they have a pretty good screening system and scholarship program (imagine having to enjoy your scholarship for the rest of your college life here, and all you have to do is maintain the passing grades?! astig!). i remember my college days. those were the days.

4. i'm starting to think that i'm losing my libido. hell, sometimes i grow wearisome over doing stuff (the dirty ones LOL) that i've been used to doing since high school. it's bothering me. just top off the head.

5. preliminary exams are over, and i think my students think i hate them - most of them think my exams are too much. maybe i did go overboard. just a little bit heheh

6. five students decided to take exams with their classmates. doesn't really mean anything to some people, not unless we find out that these kids are actually cross-enrolled to other classes that i also handle. the result: a dearth of questionnaires during the exams. the impact: people thinking i'm inefficient. now i have to start all over again, and make them believe i am not.

part of my letter wrote:

Although new at ***, the undersigned has been teaching for eight years in the tertiary level; he is disturbed by these students’ lack of regard for the test environs that the School has established to maintain the sanctity of the grade. Furthermore, the same students, with the exception of Ms. N***, also approached the undersigned prior to his marketing schedule to San Pablo, asking him to allow them to take the exam with their classmates, disregarding the exam schedules set for the classes they were enrolled in. The undersigned reiterated that the request was noted, and would be consulted through the auspices of their respective dean. And then, this incident happened.

The undersigned is concerned with the actions of these students, and request that your good office shed light on the issue, emphasizing on the possible repercussions that these students may garner from the incident.
